QUEEN’S PARK — MPP Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the news that the federal and provincial governments have submitted an application to cancel the current federal environmental assessment for Highway 413.
“Highway 413 is going to destroy 2,000 acres of prime farmland, including 400 acres of the Greenbelt, on the backs of everyday Ontarians.
It’s deeply troubling that the federal government is abandoning their commitment to protecting Ontario’s farms, wetlands and species at risk. I urge them to rethink this dangerous decision.
I stand with the many environmental and community groups fighting to stop the 413 and put forward real solutions to build more homes in affordable, connected communities well-serviced by transit options that get you where you need to go.
We’ll continue calling on this government to stop peddling snake oil and support a real plan to put people before speculators by subsidizing tolls for trucks on Highway 407.”
