TORONTO – Mike Schreiner, released the following statement:
“The Premier’s attempt to bully CUPE into submission has backfired badly by attacking people’s Charter rights. Now he needs to back down, immediately recall MPPs to Queen’s Park and repeal Bill 28.
The use of the notwithstanding clause to strip away workers’ collective bargaining rights was never justified and could only end one way – with schools closed and students caught in the middle.
Now the Premier must move quickly to minimize the damage and get students back in class with fair bargaining. Bill 28 is bad legislation and it must be repealed – the sooner the better.”
