GUELPH, ON — Mike Schreiner released this statement after the federal government announced an increase to the small business wage subsidy from 10% to 75%:
“As a former small business owner, I know how much this cash flow relief matters to everyone who runs a small business and is trying desperately to keep staff on payroll.
According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, one-third of small businesses face permanent closure within a month without this financial assistance.
This subsidy gives local businesses a fighting chance to avoid layoffs and make sure workers have a job when we are able to safely restart the economy.
This is why I was pushing the provincial government to increase the wage subsidy for Ontario businesses.
And I thank the federal government for taking action to protect local businesses and support workers from losing their jobs.”
