QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner, MPP for Guelph, released the following statement after the Government tabled new transit legislation:
“Across party lines, everyone wants to get transit built faster.
But the biggest priority must be to get transit done right rather than a politically motivated rush job.
We cannot forget that the Premier ripped up years of planning and design on the Ontario Relief Line just so that he could put his own stamp on the project.
Transit development cannot be a ‘my way or the highway’ affair.
Following a fair and evidence-based process ensures we are making smart transit decisions and that we not face undue expensive delays once shovels get in the ground.
That said, I am open to measures that will expedite transit construction as long as they do not trample on our environment or the rights of neighbourhoods to be consulted.”
