QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after the province ordered a two-week closure of public schools following March break:
“This is an aggressive step, but I agree with it if it follows the recommendations of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer.
Many families will be travelling abroad during the March break and we must be proactive in preventing Covid-19 from gaining a foothold in our schools.
In uncertain and rapidly evolving situations like this, I support precautionary measures that will keep us safe in the long run.
Since this step will create challenges for families, I urge the government to announce a package of support for people who miss work due to childcare responsibilities and self-quarantine.”
