QUEEN’S PARK — MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that senior staff in the Premier’s and Energy Minister’s offices factored concerns about the costs to Enbridge Gas in their response to the OEB’s ruling to de-amortize new fossil gas hookups.
“In a cost of living crisis, the government is once again prioritising well-connected insiders over millions of Ontario homeowners.
These newly released internal records confirm what I have been saying all along: that the government is more concerned about helping out its billion-dollar Enbridge buddies than it is with helping Ontarians save on their energy bills.
The result? More Ontarians will be stuck with higher energy bills for decades to come.
I support the OEB’s decision to help Ontarians get off fossil fuels and make the switch to cleaner, cheaper energy alternatives.
Once again, I call on the government to respect the OEB’s independent decision to protect consumers, abandon its bad bill and stop using ratepayer dollars to subsidize fossil giants.”
