QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner made the following statement after the province announced a new math curriculum:
“As the Minister unveils a Back-to-Basics math curriculum in the middle of a pandemic, I think he needs to do a better job of telling time.
I’m hearing from so many teachers that this has been the most stressful period of their careers, trying to deliver lessons at a distance while preventing their students from falling behind.
They’re also planning for multiple different classroom scenarios in the fall in the absence of clear direction from the Minister about what learning will look like.
There is already enough uncertainty and instability for students and educators without adding a new math curriculum to the equation.
The content of this new curriculum might be fine, but the Minister should have waited for a much better time to release it.”
