TORONTO – MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the Ford government announcement that it will take the next steps to consolidate conservation authorities.
“Every year, communities across Ontario face increasingly dangerous flood risks. Now, this government wants to sink millions into weakening those protections.
The government is dismantling the critical agencies that protect our lives, livelihoods and property so that he can sell off the places we love, piece by piece, to wealthy, well-connected insiders.
This government continues to centralise power into fewer and fewer hands—undermining local expertise and decision-making and gutting protections for our parks, lakes and rivers.
I am calling on the government to listen to warnings from local experts, reverse this expensive and dangerous plan and actually invest in the systems that keep our communities safe.”
