QUEEN’S PARK – MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in support of the province-wide walkouts to protest the Ford government’s OSAP cuts.
“We stand with students across the province standing up to the government and saying “Hands Off Our Education!”.
For years, the government has starved the post-secondary sector and allowed a handful of private career colleges to abuse the OSAP system.
Now the Premier is punishing all students who rely on OSAP to make ends meet.
Students should not be paying the price for the government’s failures. They should not have to choose between dropping out of school or graduating with crushing debt. They should not be worried about paying the rent because their OSAP funds are frozen.
We are calling on the government to reverse their cuts to OSAP, eliminate all interest on student loans, unlock frozen funds and ensure that low and middle-income students receive 100 per cent of their support in the form of non-repayable grants.”
