GUELPH — MPP Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the release of an open letter from a broad-based coalition of Ontario organizations calling on the government to abandon its most recent housing bill, Bill 185, and the accompanying changes to the Provincial Planning Statement.
“I stand with the many community members calling on this government to step up to the plate with a credible plan to increase Ontario’s housing supply without sprawling onto our farms, forests and wetlands.
This letter sends a clear message to the Premier – that Ontarians are tired of his string of housing failures. They want a government that’s willing to tackle the housing crisis by building homes people can afford in the communities they love.
Instead of prioritizing deep-pocketed speculators poised to profit off sprawl, this government should try listening to the millions of Ontarians who just want this government to build more homes and bring down soaring housing costs while protecting our agricultural and natural land.”
