QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement for Pride Month:
“I’d like to wish a happy Pride to everyone celebrating this month.
This month is all about coming together safely as a community to celebrate Pride and to stand up for inclusive, loving communities.
While it is unfortunate that COVID-19 is again restricting the ability to gather in-person, I am continually impressed with the creativity from community groups and organizations who are able to move events online.
It’s also an important time for us to remember the history and present day reality of the discrimination that LGBTQ2S+ individuals and communities continue to face.
We must not forget that it’s been 51 years since the Stonewall uprising that launched the Pride movement.
I am constantly inspired by the resilience that the LGBTQ2S+ community shows in the face of targeted discrimination, hate and violence.
But it doesn’t need to be this way. It must not be this way.
I am fully committed to working towards a more equitable Ontario. Where you aren’t judged based on your sexuality or identity.
It’s on everyone to be more accepting and more understanding.
It’s on everyone to be an ally.
So here’s to celebration, and here’s to continued progress.
Here’s to a safe and happy Pride.”
