MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to new FAO data showing that Ontario’s 2025 housing starts were the lowest since 2014.
“The government’s housing failures are eroding young people’s hope of ever being able to afford life in Ontario.
While other provinces are seeing housing starts rise, Ontario keeps falling behind because of this government’s failure to act. The Premier continues to say no to the kinds of bold actions we know are key to building more affordable homes—like legalizing gentle density and funding non-profit, co-op and supportive homes.
Ontarians are tired of seeing our province become more expensive and harder to live in. The government needs to step up with a serious plan to get more homes built faster in existing communities, close to the people and places we love.”
