QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement regarding the Federal budget’s lack of improvement to CRSB:
“The Premier has been out of excuses on paid sick days for a long time.
And the fact that yesterday’s Federal budget didn’t include improvements to the CRSB is further evidence that this buck-passing has to stop. It’s not on the Feds to clean up the Premier’s mess.
The Premier has abandoned workers. And he must reverse course.
All public health experts including the government’s very own Science Table advisors are calling for provincially legislated paid sick days as a key measure to limit the spread of COVID-19 in high-risk, vulnerable workplaces. Essential workers should not have to choose between their health and their income.
As soon as the Premier entered office in 2018, he cut paid sick days. We are now seeing how shortsighted and ill-advised that decision was.
The Premier must immediately legislate paid time off for vaccination and paid sick days that are:
- Permanent
- Seamless and fast
- Adequate in quantity (at least 10 days)
- Universal and accessible to all workers without restriction”
