QUEEN’S PARK – MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement responding to the government’s announcement that they will introduce a bill exempting the Premier and cabinet from FOI requests.
“MPPs have not even returned to the legislature yet and the Premier is already dodging accountability.
This is the same government that is still under active RCMP investigation after the Information and Privacy Commissioner found government staff using code words and personal emails to purposefully hide their decision-making in the Greenbelt scheme.
The same government that the Auditor General found was “not fair, transparent or accountable” in their management of the Skills Development Fund.
We need more honesty, accountability and transparency from this government, not less. Ontarians have a right to know how decisions are being made in their own government.”
