GUELPH, ON — Mike Schreiner issued the following statement about the outbreak at Guelph General Hospital that has led to 21 workers being infected with COVID-19:
“I am very worried about the situation at Guelph General where 21 workers have tested positive for COVID-19.
My heart goes out to the entire staff at Guelph General who are working so hard to care for us. I want to thank you and your loved ones who I know are feeling anxious.
We cannot afford to have physicians, nurses or any healthcare workers removed from the frontlines.
Outbreaks amongst workers underscore the vital importance of adequate PPE at every healthcare facility to reduce transmission to healthcare staff.
These outbreaks should also drive urgent decisions about treating COVID-19 patients at separate facilities to prevent the spread of the virus within our hospitals.”
