QUEEN’S PARK — The Green Party of Ontario leader and MPP for Guelph, Mike Schreiner, released the following statement in response to the news that Metrolinx has removed EV chargers from GO station parking lots:
“We respect that Metrolinx made a business decision, but it’s a short-sighted one that will end up costing the people of Ontario more in the long-run.
Decisions about our transportation infrastructure should be made with an eye to the future and it’s indisputable that the future of driving is electric.
Global automakers are spending $255 billion through 2023 on research and development alone and by 2040 it’s predicted that 55% of all new vehicles will be electric.
Perhaps if the PC government wasn’t hostile to the low-carbon economy, then provincial agencies and the private sector would feel more confident making clean technology investments in Ontario.”
