  • The Premier’s EV u-turn needs a bigger boost

GUELPH — MPP Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the government’s request for bids for EV charging stations in 15 rural and remote areas of the province.

“I’m glad that the government has finally realized that Ontarians might actually want to buy and drive the EVs we hope to produce.

It wasn’t so long ago that the Premier was tearing out existing EV chargers from GO stations and scrapping incentives that made it easier for people to purchase new EVs.

But if this government really wants to undo the damage its previous antics have caused, it needs to go a lot further.

I have been calling on the government to implement an EV charging network all across the province, make new and used EVs more affordable, improve charging reliability and standardization, and amend the building code to include chargers in all new homes.

These are simple measures that would ensure the growth of our EV sector actually benefits everyday Ontarians. The Premier has his work cut out for him, and I hope he’s committed to righting his past wrongs.”
