QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after the province announced some businesses could reopen on May 4:
“I am delighted that people can safely start tending to their gardens and growing fresh fruit and vegetables.
I want to thank the Premier for listening to me and the thousands of Ontarians who asked for community gardens to be restored because they are an essential source of food.
As the government slowly re-opens the economy, I urge the Premier not to return to a status quo that wasn’t working for people or the planet.
This pandemic laid bare so many problems that require our attention before the next catastrophe hits.
The province should be seriously looking at a universal basic income, an overhaul of long-term care and immediate ways to nurture a cleaner, safer, healthier economy.”
