Message from the MPP

My office is fully committed to creating space for citizens to actively participate in and have a say in decisions that affect them. I strongly support implementation of the AODA 2005, and look forward to continued consultation on disability and accessibility issues.

I will strive to ensure appropriate access to services within my office and will continue to advocate for accessible government services for all Ontarians.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at any time with comments, concerns or suggestions.

Many thanks,

Mike Schreiner

Section One: Past Achievements to Remove and Prevent Barriers

Policies

In 2019, the MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office implemented a Policy for accessible service: Mike Schreiner, MPP.

This document includes a summary of the accessibility commitments the MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office will provide.

Our office is committed to providing quality service to all constituents.
We will continue to work with constituents to provide information and advocacy in ways that work for the individual.

We will provide, on request, information in an accessible format or with communication supports to people with disabilities, in a manner that takes into account their disability.

We will also continue to ensure that events we hold are accessible to all.

Section Two: Strategies and Actions
We have identified several ways in which we will continue to improve service, to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and to remove and prevent barriers to people with disabilities.

Service
The MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office is committed to providing accessible service to people with disabilities. This means that we will provide goods and services to people with disabilities with the same high quality and timeliness as others.
In 2020, we will ensure all staff and volunteers are trained on how to interact with people with different disabilities. In 2020 and 2021, we will ensure that all new staff and volunteers are trained within 3 months of joining the office.
Information and Communications
The MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office is committed to making our information and communications accessible to people with disabilities.
In 2020, we will review our website for compliance with AODA standards, and develop protocols to ensure that information that may not be available via screen readers can be provided electronically in a different format.
In 2020, we will also ensure our feedback forms are easily accessible by:
Adding a page to explain ways people can provide feedback to our website
Adding a form to provide feedback to our website
Creating clear signs for the office that explain ways people can provide feedback
Creating a comment card at the office to provide another avenue for people to provide feedback.

In 2020, we will convert existing emergency and public safety information into a digital file for easy conversion to accessible formats.

By 2021, we will develop a procedure so that company communications are available to employees with disabilities at the same time as everyone else.

Maintenance/facilities
On an ongoing basis, we will ensure hallways and corridors are clutter free
In 2020, we will ensure that the button for the automatic door is repaired. In the interim, we will add signage to the website and to our office to ask people to ring the doorbell for assistance.
We will research alternate options for accessible parking, which is currently available but limited.

Training
The MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office is committed to providing training in the requirements of Ontario’s accessibility laws and the Ontario Human Rights Code as it applies to people with disabilities.
By February 2020, we will ensure that all current staff and volunteers are trained via programming available at https://accessforward.ca/
Going forward, all staff and volunteers will be trained within 3 months of joining our office.

By June 2020, we will have researched other training opportunities available, and if applicable, create a plan and timeline for staff and volunteers to receive this additional training.
