Our plan shows how MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office will play its role in making Ontario an accessible province for all Ontarians.
Statement of Commitment
MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for people with disabilities. We are committed to treating people with disabilities in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence.
We believe in integration, and we are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner. We will do so by removing and preventing barriers to accessibility and by meeting our accessibility requirements under Ontario’s accessibility laws.
Section One: Past Achievements to Remove and Prevent Barriers
In 2019, the MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office implemented a Policy for accessible service: Mike Schreiner, MPP. This document was updated in December 2021.
This document includes a summary of the accessibility commitments the MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office will provide.
Our office is committed to providing quality service to all constituents.
We will continue to work with constituents to provide information and advocacy in ways that work for the individual.
We will provide, on request, information in an accessible format or with communication supports to people with disabilities, in a manner that takes into account their disability.
We will also continue to ensure that events we hold are accessible to all.
Between 2019 and 2021 we:
- ensured all staff and volunteers were appropriately trained on the AODA within the first two weeks;
- fixed the accessibility access button on the entrance of the constituency office;
- added signage to the website and to our office to ask people to ring the doorbell for assistance when the door is locked.
- updated our website to a theme that is WGAC 2.0 Level AA compliant and made efforts to make it further accessible;
- converted existing emergency and public safety information into a digital file for easy conversion to accessible formats;
- created a comment card at the office to provide another avenue for people to provide feedback.
Section Two: Strategies and Actions
We have identified several ways in which we will continue to improve service, to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and to remove and prevent barriers to people with disabilities.
The MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office is committed to providing accessible service to people with disabilities. This means that we will provide goods and services to people with disabilities with the same high quality and timeliness as others.
We will ensure all staff and volunteers are trained on how to interact with people with different disabilities. We will ensure that all new staff and volunteers are trained within 3 months of joining the office.
Information and Communications
The MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office is committed to making our information and communications accessible to people with disabilities.
In 2022 we will create a plan to ensure our feedback forms are easily accessible by:
- creating a page to explain ways people can provide feedback to our website
- creating clear signs for the office that explain ways people can provide feedback
By 2022, we will develop a procedure so that company communications are available to employees with disabilities at the same time as everyone else.
By June of 2022, we will make sure all our postings on our website adhere to WGAC rules including proper headings and alternative attributes for images.
- On an ongoing basis, we will ensure hallways and corridors are clutter free
- In 2022 we will ensure that all individuals visiting the office are made aware of options for accessible parking by posting this on our website and sending it via email when requested.
- We will research alternate options for accessible parking, which is currently available but limited.
The MPP Mike Schreiner – Guelph Constituency Office is committed to providing training in the requirements of Ontario’s accessibility laws and the Ontario Human Rights Code as it applies to people with disabilities.
We ensure that all current staff and volunteers are trained via programming available at https://accessforward.ca/
Going forward, all staff and volunteers will be trained within the first 2 weeks of joining our office.
In 2022, we will research other training opportunities offered through AODA, and if applicable, create a plan and timeline for staff and volunteers to receive this additional training.
