QUEEN’S PARK – With the provincial Legislature set to return next week, Member of Provincial Parliament for Guelph Mike Schreiner shared his focus for the upcoming session.
“Everyday people can’t get ahead,” said Schreiner. “They’re doing all the right things – working hard, paying their taxes, saving every spare dollar – and still feeling left behind. Things that previous generations took for granted, like buying a home or starting a family, have slipped out of reach.”
“Meanwhile, the super rich are doing better than ever. The richest one per cent in Canada hold almost as much as the bottom 80 per cent combined. Every hour, billionaires pocket more wealth than the average worker earns in an entire year. But instead of taxing them, the government is cutting deals with them.”
“It’s time to bring fairness back to Ontario. That’s why when the Legislature resumes next week, the first thing we’ll do is table a motion calling for a wealth tax on the super rich.”
“We will spend every minute of this legislative sitting fighting for a government that puts people over profits,” said Schreiner. “We believe that a better Ontario is possible. A wealth tax is how we’ll afford to build it.”
