GUELPH – MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to this morning’s Financial Accountability Office (FAO) report on the 2025 labour market:
“This report tells us that this government does not have a plan for workers.
For the second year in a row, Ontario is seeing the worst increase in unemployment in the country.
More and more people are losing their jobs and job creation is not keeping up. Our labour market is in crisis and the government is missing in action.
The government could create jobs now by investing in made-in-Ontario renewable energy like wind, solar, and energy storage. These are the projects that will create good-paying, generational jobs using Ontario steel while generating affordable, reliable power.
They could legalize gentle density to build missing middle homes and invest in government-funded, affordable non-profit, co-op, and supportive housing to create good construction jobs close to where people live.
They could create an EV strategy that incentivizes demand and brings auto jobs back to the province instead of letting Ontario far fall behind the rest of the world.”
