TORONTO– Mike Schreiner made the following statement on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP):
“The cost of living is skyrocketing, but the Premier refuses to budge on increasing Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) rates.
Today, Statistics Canada reported the largest annual increase in cost of living in over 30 years. The cost of food, energy, shelter and transportation is all increasing. How can the Premier expect Ontarians with disabilities to live off just $1,169 per month?
The fact that the Premier said the best way to support people on ODSP is to ‘get them a job’ shows how completely out of touch he is with the challenges that people with disabilities face.
I will double ODSP rates so people with disabilities don’t have to choose between putting food on the table or keeping a roof over their head.”
