QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement:
“The Premier’s commission does not inspire confidence conducting interviews behind closed doors.
I am alarmed that the commission’s work is already underway under the cover of darkness without the public’s knowledge.
The people of Ontario deserve a public process.
For a government that has never been afraid to flex its power, it is disingenuous for them to suggest that they cannot guarantee public hearings.
The Premier handcuffed the process from the outset by opting for a government controlled commission rather than a full public inquiry.
The Minister’s office backpedaled on full transparency because this government does not want to be exposed for its role in the long-term care tragedy.
There is no justice for elders and their families with a closed-door process that does not include public hearings and testimonies.”
