QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after it was announced that bars and restaurants would be allowed to extend their patios:
“I support the increased use of outdoor space to help people socialize safely and provide additional income generating opportunities for small businesses.
This is a smart move that I backed weeks ago when it was first proposed by my Independent colleague, MPP Amanda Simard.
In addition to this decision, I urge the province to expand funding for the Digital Main Street program, which helps businesses to improve their digital services and stay competitive online.
But it is essential that extended patio rules are accompanied by clear physical distancing and public health guidelines that businesses and the public can follow.
People need stronger and clearer information about where they can go, who they can see and what physical distancing looks like under the next stage.”
