GUELPH — MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that the Ford government has awarded a preliminary contract for the Science Centre relocation at Ontario Place.
“Despite the protests, despite the many community leaders calling for the preservation of our precious public assets, the government is still ploughing ahead with their disastrous Ontario Place redevelopment scheme.
It’s a slap in the face to so many Ontarians who have been fighting to keep Ontario Place public, and for a Science Centre revitalization that keeps jobs and opportunity in the Don Mills community.
If the government had actually taken the time to listen to Ontarians, they could avoid wasting so much time and money on a bad deal that they’re going to walk back a few years down the road.
Public land should stay in public hands – and the revitalization of our public assets should prioritize community consultation over well-connected insiders.
I will continue to fight for an Ontario Place – and a Science Centre – that puts people first.”
