QUEEN’S PARK — MPP Clancy and MPP Schreiner released the following statement in response to the government’s introduction of new high school graduation requirements.
“This is a hasty announcement that was made without guidance from the educators who keep our classrooms running.
While we support the introduction of financial literacy and other core life skills into the high school curriculum, this announcement is missing many key details that will make a huge difference in the day-to-day lives of our kids, teachers and other education staff.
That the government made this announcement with just three months until the start of the next school year shows just how out of touch they are with the realities our teachers are facing.
Any curriculum changes this government makes need to be based on consultation with the people who will be tasked with implementing them – our teachers. Going forward, I hope to see the government work with educators on collaborative solutions that put our kids first. ”
