MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner issued the following statement in response to new rules under Bill 40 that would allow electricity and natural gas companies to pass higher procurement costs on to consumers as a result of the Ford government’s ban on certain foreign energy components:
“The government is costing everyday Ontarians by refusing to take real action to lower energy costs.
Instead of making the necessary changes to expand Ontario’s grid and keep up with growing demand, the government continues to ramp up expensive and US-reliant gas and nuclear plants while small businesses and consumers foot the bill.
The cheapest, fastest way to expand the grid, lower energy bills and create prosperity for communities is to invest in Ontario-made wind, solar and energy storage solutions.
These are the projects that will lower energy bills, cut climate pollution and reduce reliance on American energy. They’re the projects that will create good-paying, generational jobs using Ontario steel to manufacture racking for solar panels and wind turbines while generating affordable, reliable power.”
