QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement regarding schools:
“The Premier must make getting students safely back in the classroom a top priority.
Schools should be the last place to close and the first to open.
Any reopening needs to put the health and wellbeing of children and staff first.
This government has failed our children by not taking the steps to make schools safe.
They’ve refused to lower class sizes, have delayed addressing ventilation issues, and the rapid testing campaign has been inaccessible and sloppy at best.
The online school system simply isn’t working. Students are falling behind and their mental health is suffering. Many teachers and parents are burnt out and frustrated.
And the ineffective hybrid model has been condemned by just about everyone. That idea needs to be put into the trash can.
I’m calling on Premier Ford to prioritize the wellbeing of children by making schools safe so they can get back in the classroom.”
