QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement regarding splash pads:
“First the government closed playgrounds, now they’re not allowing splash pads.
The science table has recommended that safe outdoor recreation be allowed.
Mayors are asking to be allowed to open splash pads, to give kids and families a chance to cool off and be outside.
It’s important for people’s mental and physical health to be able to get outside safely and be active in the fresh air.
Having safe, public areas open is also an issue of equity. Many families don’t have access to a cottage or can’t afford to golf.
Playgrounds and skate parks are allowed.
Why not let splash pads open too? If municipalities are ready to safely open splash pads, they should be allowed to do so.”
