QUEEN’S PARK – MPP for Guelph, Mike Schreiner, released the following statement in response to the government’s 2026 budget.
“The government is sending a message to everyone in this province struggling to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table: tough luck.
This budget shows exactly who the government is actually working for – PC donors, rich investors, and corporate giants in Toronto looking to make a buck off of everyday people.
This government is dumping billions into an island airport and a tunnel under the 401—while abandoning people all over Ontario who are working so hard just to make ends meet.
This budget offers nothing to bring down housing costs for young people or build affordable and supportive homes for the 85,000 Ontarians facing homelessness.
Nothing for students being forced to choose between dropping out of school or taking on a mountain of debt.
Nothing to bring down energy costs for everyday people or protect our farmland and water.
And it utterly fails to address the crises in our classrooms and hospitals which are hurting Ontarians every day.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We will keep fighting for a province where everyday people come before well-connected investors and corporate profits.”
