QUEEN’S PARK – MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement following the second reading passage of Bill 98: Building Homes and Improving Transportation Infrastructure Act.
“Every step this government takes is making life more expensive and less safe for Ontarians.
We’re already in an affordability and climate crisis, and this bill will only make things worse.
This government is removing the ability for municipalities to implement building standards that will bring down home heating costs. They’re meddling in municipal planning and removing requirements to build more EV chargers in Toronto.
Home heating, fuel costs and insurance rates are all going up. And municipalities are facing the massive and increasing costs that come with responding to climate fueled flooding and unsafe weather.
When will this government stop taking tools away from municipalities and start taking real action to bring down costs and make life easier for Ontarians?”
