QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to this morning’s FAO report:
“The Premier is still sitting on funds while we potentially head into a third wave.
This morning’s FAO report shows that the government spent $3.1 billion less than planned since last April, and is still sitting on $4.7 billion in contingency funds.
Despite this, a commission found that the government refused to protect LTC residents during the second wave because they were deemed ‘too expensive’.
Health professionals and workers are still calling for paid sick days to keep workers safe and to contain the spread of COVID-19.
So I question Premier Ford’s priorities when he’s willing to spend $10 billion on Highway 413 that will save commuters a mere 30 seconds.
Currently, 33 schools are forced shut, and variants of concern are spreading rapidly across the province.
When will the Premier put people first and invest in the necessary measures to keep Ontarians safe?”
