GUELPH — MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that hallway healthcare reached an all-time high in Ontario in 2022-23.
“The government has promised to end hallway healthcare for five years now – but their constant string of poor choices has made the healthcare crisis worse.
Hallway healthcare is at an all-time high. Ontario hospitals are overcrowded, workers are burning out in droves, and emergency rooms sit shuttered because of this government’s negligence.
By refusing to step up with real solutions to the out-of-control healthcare crisis, they’re failing every single Ontarian.
It’s time for that to change.
That means investing in our public healthcare system instead of funneling taxpayer dollars into private, for-profit care.
It means coming up with a real plan to recruit and retain public-sector workers with fair wages and better working conditions.
And it means fixing the cracks in our crumbling long-term care system with more non-profit beds and better oversight – so our loved ones aren’t stuck in hospitals for months while waiting for a bed.”
