TORONTO — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to today’s vaccine update:
“In order for Ontario to benefit from the expanded second dose booking eligibility announced today, there needs to be adequate booking slots and a clearly communicated rollout so the most at-risk are not left on the sidelines again.
The current system only works for tech savvy people who have the time and resources to hunt for vaccines.
This leaves out people in more vulnerable situations, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and those with limited phone or internet access.
This isn’t how the vaccine rollout should work.
The Premier’s failure to prioritize hot spot communities and vaccine access for the most vulnerable will only prolong the pandemic.
We need to ensure second doses get to those who need them the most, including those in vulnerable situations, and hot spots like Peel and Scarborough as well as the new hot spot region of Waterloo.”
