QUEEN’S PARK – MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the tabling of the 2026 Fall Economic Statement.
“Hardworking Ontarians are being left behind by this government.
Workers losing their jobs. Students dropping out of school. People forced to choose between a roof and food.
This is where eight years of this government has gotten us. Record deficits and no money to pay for the things we need.
Meanwhile the super rich are getting richer, sitting on billions of dollars untaxed.
That’s why the I have called for a wealth tax. To ensure that everyone in our province pays their fair share.
A wealth tax would give us the money to cut the deficit and fund the things that people actually need. Things like homes, healthcare, schools and made-in-Ontario renewable energy.
I will keep fighting to put people over profits. We need to tax the super rich so we can build the province we all deserve to live in.”
