QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement regarding the Premier’s refusal to protect essential workers:
“We need to vaccinate essential workers now, not in 6 or 8 weeks.
Outbreaks at warehouses, food processing plants, and distribution centres are driving the spread of COVID-19.
It’s unconscionable that essential workers and their family members are packing ICUs because they don’t have paid sick days and it’s not their turn for vaccines yet.
Until the freezers are empty, the Premier shouldn’t be making excuses about vaccine supply. We need to get as many needles into arms as fast as we can.
We can’t have safe communities without safe workplaces.
And the Premier has failed to make workplaces safe by refusing to legislate paid sick leave, deploy rapid tests to workplaces, and mandate adequate PPE.
He’s failed to protect Ontario’s workers.
And Ontarians are fed up with the Premier’s excuses. I don’t blame them.”
