  • “If I were the Premier right now, I would be scrapping Bill 124,” says Mike Schreiner

QUEEN’S PARK – Mike Schreiner, released the following statement in response to the government’s healthcare infrastructure announcement.

“Fixing a few doors and windows will not fix our ailing healthcare system. That’s not where the problem lies.

And beds without staff are nothing but furniture.

If I were the Premier, I would be scrapping Bill 124 and negotiating wages that nurses deserve and have earned.

The Premier and Minister need to stop ignoring the crisis and put forward an all hands on deck plan that invests in the people who deliver care.

Like in the education sector, the government is starving the public healthcare system and using the current crisis to justify privatization. That has not worked in the U.S. and it will not work here.

We need the Health Minister and the Premier to make a clear and unequivocal statement that they will preserve publicly funded, publicly delivered healthcare in this province.”
