  • Mandate letters ruling sets poor precedent for government transparency

GUELPH — Mike Schreiner released the following statement responding to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the release of the government’s 2018 mandate letters.

“This is a disappointing ruling that sets a poor precedent for democracy in Ontario.

The people of Ontario are entitled to transparency and accountability from their elected officials.

Through multiple scandals and investigations, we have seen the lengths this government will go to in order to conceal its bad behaviour from the people of Ontario.

I applaud the work of members of the media to shed light on this government’s constant prioritizing of well-connected insiders over everyday Ontarians.

We will continue to demand transparency and accountability from this government, because that’s what Ontarians deserve.”
