QUEEN’S PARK — MPP for Guelph and Green Party of Ontario Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement on the day of the global climate strike organized by students:
“I am so inspired by the global climate activism led by students in the Fridays for Future movement. These young leaders are doing what the adults leading the province are failing to do, which is acknowledge the climate emergency we all face.
It’s a shame that their future is being threatened by a government playing politics with climate action in Ontario.
It’s a shame that when I tried to initiate an emergency debate on climate change following the release of a UN report last October, the Ontario government shot down my motion.
It’s a shame that while students call for “climate action now” the Premier is busy sabotaging climate solutions all over the province.
I applaud these brave students for taking their climate activism from the classroom to Queen’s Park and reminding us all that there is no Planet B.
I will continue amplifying their voice inside the Legislature.”
