  • Premier should close pandemic pay gaps

QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement about delays to the province’s pandemic pay:

“I am disappointed that workers will still be waiting for weeks for the pandemic pay that was promised to them at the onset of this crisis.

The province should have been ready to roll out wage supplements when the promise was made, but instead workers are waiting months for their value to be recognized.

I’m hearing from workers and management that the delay makes them feel undervalued.

The bigger problem is that so many frontline workers have been excluded from the pandemic pay despite their essential contributions to fighting the virus.

I continue to call on the government to make the pandemic pay permanent and to expand eligibility to all staff and front line workers in high-risk settings.
