  • The Premier’s failure to take action on the healthcare crisis is risking the health of Ontarians

GUELPH – Mike Schreiner, released the following statement in response to a new report about the state of Ontario’s healthcare system showing a 54% wait time increase since August 2021 for inpatient beds with a majority waiting up to 33 hours.

“These numbers are shocking and shameful.

The crisis will only get worse if the government continues to remain apathetic about fixing our healthcare system.

The Premier and Minister of Health’s silence on this issue is deafening.

Emergency rooms are closing, there’s a shortage of paediatric ICU beds, and people are waiting up to 33 hours for inpatient beds.

Instead of punishing our elders by sending them to far away long-term care homes in an attempt to free up hospital beds, a responsible government would repeal Bill 124, and make immediate and bold investments in our hospitals and healthcare workers to shore up hospital capacity.

Ford needs to stop touting a $2.1 billion budget surplus and invest in healthcare, not highways.”
