  • Still no plan for essential workers

QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to this morning’s vaccine rollout announcement:

“Yesterday we were told that every Ontarian would soon know precisely when and how they’d get a vaccine. Instead, this morning we were left with more questions than answers.

Where is the plan to vaccinate essential workers? Since most outbreaks are taking place in vulnerable workplaces, we know that the only way we can protect our communities is with a plan for safe workplaces.

But this morning the head of the government’s vaccine task force said that the vaccine schedule for essential workers would be figured out in May. Plans for the general population would be decided in the summer.

This is not good enough.

Ontario’s online booking portal is far behind other provinces. Ontario is behind other provinces in vaccinating elders in the community. And Ontario is behind in vaccinating the overall population.

We need clarity and leadership from the government to know exactly when and how Ontarians will be vaccinated.”
