TORONTO — Mike Schreiner is calling on the government to speed up the delayed pandemic pay process for PSWs, which is leaving thousands of health-care workers underpaid.
“As the Omicron variant sweeps through our province, we need to ensure that Ontarians on the frontlines are being compensated and treated fairly,” Schreiner wrote in a letter to the Minister of Health.
Hospitals and long-term care homes are under extreme pressure due to staffing shortages. Yet for many PSWs, the last time they received their pandemic pay enhancement was as far back as August 2021.
“At a time when our healthcare system is experiencing such a staffing crisis, we cannot let the wages for our front line workers hang in uncertainty,” concluded Schreiner in his letter.
“We need to do better and do whatever we can to retain our workforce.”
