QUEEN’S PARK — MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to an Ontario Healthcare Coalition report showing that dozens of patients who received privately funded cataract surgeries were pressured to pay more for extra services.
“The Premier promised that Ontarians would never have to use their credit cards to access healthcare in this province.
By failing to stop these private surgical clinics from misleading and upselling patients, he is breaking that promise over and over again, and setting up a two-tier healthcare system in Ontario.
How many more empty promises of investigations, crackdowns or warnings are we going to hear before this government actually does something?
The best way to stop these illegal fees is to invest in our publicly funded, publicly delivered healthcare system and the people who keep it running. Full stop.”
