QUEEN’S PARK — MPP Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that Japanese company Asahi Kasei will build an EV battery separator plant in Port Colborne.
“If the government is serious about our province’s EV future, it must step up to the table with serious measures that make it affordable for ordinary Ontarians to buy and use the EVs we’re producing.
We will make the EVs Ontario makes affordable for Ontarians to drive.
Since taking office, the Premier has systematically removed any provincial measures that made EVs more accessible and affordable.
Still to this day, he’s threatening Ontario’s clean-grid competitive advantage with reckless investment in costly fossil gas plants.
I welcome the growth of our EV sector. But it needs to be supported by a government committed to the cleaner, cheaper renewable energy sources that will power our province’s growth.
Without these commitments, the Premier is putting our EV future at risk.”
