GUELPH — MPP Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to a new report showing more than 9,000 megawatts of Ontario’s electricity will come from fossil gas during peak summer weather this year.
“Ontario cannot keep burning fossil gas. It’s putting our health, our economy and our environment at risk.
What does this government not understand?
If we want to ensure our energy grid remains affordable for Ontarians, we need to phase out fossil gas and invest in low-cost renewables.
And yet this government continues to invest in costly fossil gas plants that pollute our air and put our future in jeopardy.
This government has completely fumbled the energy file, and Ontarians are the ones paying for its mistakes. It’s unfair.”
