  • Ontarians can ill afford the Premier going rogue

QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement about rising COVID-19 numbers in Ontario and the Premier’s holding pattern:

“We cannot afford for the Premier to go rogue in the middle of a second wave.

While Quebec and BC tighten their grip on COVID-19, the Premier is in a holding pattern and sending mixed messages about his priorities.

Case numbers are showing no signs of letting up, while hospitalizations climb and positivity rates rise beyond 3%. Meanwhile testing numbers are totally lacklustre, half of the 50,000 target that seems more of a pipe dream.

The Premier is also refusing to discipline an MPP who flouted basic public health measures and encouraged MPPs to lobby Dr. Williams not to impose more restrictions.

At the same time, he is protecting the profits of long-term care shareholders with a Get Out of Jail Free pass.

All of this suggests that containing the spread of the virus is no longer the Premier’s top priority.

The people of Ontario deserve to know if the Premier has moved the goalposts.

If he is writing up a new game plan for responding to COVID-19, then Ontarians need to know about it.”
