  • Premier should level the playing field, not bow to Walmart’s demands

TORONTO, ON — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after the Premier’s press conference:

“The Premier needs to show that he cares more about small businesses than big box stores.

The Premier says he’s for the little guy, but in reality he’s taking marching orders from Walmart.

I’m alarmed that decisions about business activity are being made based on phone calls with Walmart rather than a consideration of small businesses.

It is not fair that Costco and Walmart can continue selling non-essentials while independent stores are completely shuttered.

Instead of bowing to Walmart’s demands, the Premier should show some leadership and require big box stores to only sell essential items.

Small businesses deserve more than the Premier’s sympathy. They deserve a level playing field.”
