  • The government blocking Ontario’s housing progress

GUELPH — Leader Mike Schreiner made the following statement in response to the Premier’s comments suggesting that he will not accept the federal government’s $5 billion funding offer that requires the province to legalize fourplexes province-wide.

“You’d think that a government that has altogether failed to fix Ontario’s housing crisis would welcome $5 billion from the federal government to get busy building more homes.

But that’s not the case with the government. The Premier is saying no to homes people can afford in the communities they know and love. And he is saying no to federal money to address the housing crisis.

Legalizing gentle density is the cheapest and fastest way to help young Ontarians locked out of the housing market – creating more ownership opportunities in vibrant communities to live, work and play.

Instead of standing in the way of Ontario’s housing progress, the Premier should try saying yes for a change.”
